If you look up the word favoritism in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of my place of employment! It is by far the worst place I have ever seen as far as equal treatment goes. The so called administration hold some employees to a high standard while turning a blind eye to what others do (or fail to do). It's all about whether or not they like you. If they like you, you can do whatever you want when you want without any fear of consequences. However, if they don't like you, you had better watch your back and document everything that happens, because chances are, you may need it in court one day.
One classic example is my department. One guy made an honest mistake. They made him live in fear that he would be fired for this very honest and easily fixed mistake. Luckily, they couldn't fire him for it, so he had nothing to worry about, but it's just the principle of the thing! Yet, we have this one fat piece of waste who misses work constantly (has not worked a full week since February of this year), dresses inappropriately, talks trash about the powers that be (who LOVE HER!), is damn near impossible to get in touch with when she is actually at work, spreads hateful rumors about other employees being gay, and is just an all around low life. But, you can't get the so called bosses to sniff in her direction.

They know good and damn well what she is up to and yet they refuse to even warn her! I have advised the good employees to document everything. If they make an honest mistake, if they're late a time or two, if their boss rides them unreasonably, etc. Then, if/when anything ever arises, they can point right back to that slob and her antics. It would never fly in court if they tried to fire somebody else for far less offenses while miss perfect is urinating all over the rules. I hope it ends up in court one day, because apparently the so called administration needs to learn that just because you "like somebody" does not mean you can put them on a platform above the rest of civilization. Why in the world do employers suck up to bad people? Why do they ride the good and kiss the bad? That is one thing I will never understand.

I know exactly how you feel and it is so frustrating! You feel like you are only hitting your head against a wall. I also don't understand why those that are complete idiots and slackers never get what they deserve (fired perhaps!) while those of us who actually do our work and do it on time and appropriately (not to mention having to fix the errors of the aforementioned idiot and stay late with unpaid overtime because the boss feels the need to chit chat all morning) get the shaft each and every time. Somehow the boss (primadonna) sees it as my corworker and I (who have been here for 7 years and 15 years while idiot is here as an intern for 1 year) are the one in the wrong and are "being mean" to said idiot when we don't even really talk to them unless necessary. We don't kiss the bosses as* like he does and I think that bothers the boss. Apparently the boss feels as though s/he has to "protect" said idiot. I think instead of protecting the dumbas* (who by the way keeps asking ME how to do HIS job) needs to open her/his eyes and see who is getting the work done around here and who is useless. Maybe then the air would be less thick. Bosses with closed eyes are the worst. Add in a primadonna - and you have a disaster waiting to happen. I wish the job market was better and I would leave what used to be my favorite job (until s/he became in charge) and find something that doesn't send me home angry every night.
