It's Fun To Work With Shrek And Drunky the Clown

|

So it's a few years ago and I was living about an hour from where I grew up I had just had my daughter and her father came home and proclaimed he "had changed his mind"! Can you do that? So there I was with an infant no job and moving back to my home town. My mother was working for a Steel Company it was an office they bought and sold secondary crap really. Well I started coming in part time to help them get organized it was a husband and wife who owned the company. The husband whom I now refer to as Shrek (I wish I had a picture if there were ever a human who looked like a cartoon)! He calls me in his office and says I really like your work ethic you seem to be catching on I would like to offer you a job.

So cut to the good part about a year later he had hired an "old friend" who was a female, oh look I smell divorce! And that is what happened a few months later he and his wife are getting a divorce now Shrek up to this point was a pretty okay boss he liked to yell and scream and stomp his feet but that was about as far as it went. I was good at my job. Well the "old friend" then hires her sister who PS is a HUGE DRUNK and normally comes into the office after lunch smashed! So what does Shrek do he rewards her with a red mustang! Wow is it really possible he is nailing both of them! YEP as Drunky the clown let me know in one of her drunken stupors!

The saga continues, after the jump.

I worked at a horrible company for almost two years. I really pity the people still there. Anyhoo, while employed there, I met my now boyfriend (of almost two years). We dated, and kept things between us strictly professional while at work. But, soon enough, the rumor-mill started cranking, and people were gossiping. Now, this company, at the time had a "no dating" policy. But, we didn't care...both of us knew that we'd be outta there soon enough. But, here's the clincher...my boss called me into his office on three separate occassions to speak to me about my budding relationship with my boyfriend. I, of course, denied our relationship until the day one of us left. But, the funny thing is...I couldn't help but not laugh at my boss to his face during these three conversations. Because the son of a bitch actually left his ex-wife, for his secretary! I mean, c'mon!! Don't throw bricks if you live in a glass house.

Now, I'm 6 months into my new job. I just heard through some old co-workers that my boss is going through his second divorce. Poor fella.

Why Do My Co-Workers Hate Me?

|

I have a co worker named "Christa" who is nice to my face but as soon as I leave she is nothing but mean. She talks about me behind my back and used to crank call me in the middle of the night when she found out I was dating another co worker she had a thing for. But when I confronted her she always says she does not have any problems with me.

I also have another co wokrer named "Kristen" who makes up stories about me to my boss. Fortunately my boss does not believe them. She also "cries" when confronted about anything & can stop crying on command. She wanted me to work in this office with her & agreed to everything I suggested, then tries to get me fired every other day.

Mormonism, Sexism, And Sexual Harassment, Oh My!

|

One doesn't really have too many options when one is trying to pay off student loans and credit card bills. I pity the poor souls who have to work at a dead-end job, albeit, one that requires a college degree, that offers pay comparative to peanuts. While I consider myself to be fairly bright and intelligent, I don't know how I allowed myself to get stuck in the rut that is my job. It's a firm of 12 employees. I took the legal assisant position out of necessity two years ago. I'll admit I was impressed by their swanky and wealthy clientele and I was lead to believe the firm was lucrative and thriving. That is, until the law clerks and junior associates opened my eyes and the world was suddenly clear. A month after I started, my boss led me into his office and paraded me around the room to admire his diplomas and awards and did I know that he was a champion cage fighter and had a small penis? Yeah, I could read this chump.

Little did I know this fool would was really a graduate from the school of hard knocks. I was informed that I wore "too many jackets" and I was dared to take off my jacket. Nonetheless, I laughed it off, only to truly be taken off guard less than a few weeks later when I was told to make out with the other legal assistant in his office. No no, the line isn't drawn here. The office is deeply dysfunctional. The goal is to help disadvantaged children, while the greedy partners line their pockets with money from school districts, that should be going towards classrooms and books. Did I mention the nepotism?

An Unethical Law Firm. You Don't Say?

|

I was hired at a law firm on Long Island which deals with horribly boring no-fault law, and was employed for almost 6 months (12 days shy of 6 months to be exact). During my stay there, 9 out of 9 partners are men, their criteria for hiring new attorneys was: if ugly need not apply, and every single female attorney who has worked there long enough to make it to being considered for partner, has been fired for some obscene reason (like they used all their vacation days instead of coming to work). Also, the affairs the partners had with female workers (either attorneys or secretaries) was rampant and so obvious.

So, during my first few months I really enjoyed it. The work was boring, but since it was new to me, I enjoyed learning it. Then after a few more months, I realized that the work was dreadfully boring, but I always did my best. However, to my amazement, and almost everyone else's, I was "let go" on March 7, 2006 because my work was not "up to par" . The reason was so vague and basically unimportant because I knew the truth, which was that I had almost reached the 6 month mark (which means that after 6 months, they must pay you unemployment), and since I wasn't sleeping with any of the partners, and I was single and young, there was no point in keeping me.

I truly believe that if I was sleeping with one of the partners, I never would have been "let go of". Also, I believe that if I was fat and ugly I also would not have been let go. But, because I am young, single and attractive and not sleeping with any of them, it was something that pissed all the partners off~ none of them could "get me". Also, I believe that I fired because I did not "kill" myself to make my hours. All in all, I say that to every woman seeking a law job on Long Island, stay away from any large firm on Long Island where all the partners are males~ as a female you will not be promoted, and its a sick men's club.

Digging Your Own Grave

|

I got fired in April '05 from a restaurant I worked at for 3 years. I was at the time the Office Manager and Head Hostess. I did a lot of shit within a 5 week time frame I should've gotten fired for, but alas, it was something I didn't even do. So it goes like this:

1. At weekly inventory counts performed Sunday nights that another Manager and I, along with 3 employees performed, we would play poker and drink the restaurant's liquor and beer. This would go on from 1am til 4am. My boss had an idea something was up when the liquor/beer counts did reconcile to him being out of vodka and heineken in the morning. Anyways, he found out when an my assistant helped one night and ended up telling him. The other manager and I were banned from the inventory counts (oh no!) and he performed them himself in the morning. We got a big lecture on how we were bad examples and drinking the profits, probably true.

2. For my ethics class, I had to write a 20 page paper on an ineffective organization. Me, being smart and lazy, decided to write it about my restaurant. Well, it took a week to write during which I worked on it at work (stupidest idea ever). I had thought I erased it from the computer but it was found a week later. Everyone read every nasty, critical, unflaterring comment I had made about them. Stupid me, I also did not change anyone's names. Now it's funny cuz I can see everyone with a copy in their hands reading it going "this is what she thinks of us?" but back then it was sad.I tried to quit, but my boss kept me on. I have never apologized or felt so bad about a thing about in my life.
